About Me
Dr. Peter Joson is a board-certified ophthalmologist who is fellowship-trained in glaucoma. His expertise in the diagnosis and management of general ophthalmic conditions and the many varieties of glaucoma result in optimal care.
Furthermore, he is proficient in cataract surgery and the latest medical, laser, and surgical treatments for glaucoma, including selective laser trabeculoplasty, laser iridotomy and iridoplasty, trabeculectomy with antimetabolites, and glaucoma drainage device implantation.
He believes that medicine, and particularly, ophthalmology and glaucoma, are both sciences and arts. He endeavors to apply the science of medicine and tailor a treatment plan to the individual patient.
After spending his formative years in Anaheim, he attended Cornell University, double majoring in biology and economics. He then worked as a research associate in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the UC-Irvine School of Medicine. After receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College, he completed an internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Washington. Dr. Joson returned to New York to pursue a fellowship at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary with Dr. Robert Ritch, a pre-eminent leader in the field of glaucoma.
Committed to research and teaching, Dr. Joson has conducted research at UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute, and has presented and published scientific papers in both the basic and clinical science of glaucoma.
He is a clinical instructor at the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Long Beach. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society and the California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
He is a founding member and officer in the Orange County Glaucoma Society. Lastly, he holds leadership positions in the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology and the Association of Philippine Ophthalmologists in America.
As such Dr. Joson has been accredited with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and The American Board of Ophthalmology. He has been an advocate and volunteer for EyeCare America and Fightblindness.org.
